A little more about me

January 3rd, 2015 at 04:24 am

Thanks for the warm welcome! As Creditcardfree mentioned in her comment, I do feel like I already know you since I've been lurking for so long. So I will try to let you get to know me bit by bit. Here's one tidbit.

I have two little boys: DS1 is three and DS2 is two months. I am actually on maternity leave at the moment. I have about three weeks left of twelve weeks total leave. That's probably why I decided to start this blog. I've had a lot of down time while nursing, and I spend it watching TV series and reading blogs online. I refresh this site many times a day, and I get frustrated that you aren't posting fast enough to give me new reading material! Smile So then I think about what I would say in a blog post. I finally decided I should actually write the blog posts instead of just thinking about them.

As for watching TV while nursing, I have worked my way through the first three and a half seasons of Scandal, and now I am caught up to the current season, but they are on hiatus until the end of the month! I need some new shows to watch that might be available on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime (no cable in this house). Please give me your recommendations!

To give you an idea of what I currently like to watch: I've been enjoying Selfie (just recently cancelled Frown) and How to Get Away with Murder (also on hiatus right now). My husband and I watch Castle together, and I watch The Mindy Project by myself. I'm actually not a big TV watcher in general, but I have really ramped up my viewing since my son was born.

(Edited to fix apostrophes that were messed up when I copied/pasted from my text editor.)

Girl, I was never a big TV person. I was always on the go, never home. Then I had two boys back to back (18 months apart). We decided to spring for cable AND Netflix. I watched while pumping breast milk. And, you know, we were stuck at home much much more often!

The boys are 5 and 6 now, so cable is gone, but netflix has stayed. We get out a little more now! Wink

Its actually kind of disgusting how much tv I watch lol! You might also want to check out: New Girl; The Mysteries of Laura; Bad Judge (I think they cancelled it but it is hilarious); The Awesomes (only on hulu); Deadbeat (only on hulu); Gotham; Psych (this show ended a couple of seasons ago, but hilarious); White Collar (just ended this season, but worth watching); and Bob's Burgers.

I recommend White Collar too. I need to watch it too because I'm so far behind.
    Welcome to SA!

Welcome! I also LOVE Selfie and am so sad they canceled it. Have you signed the change.org petition to get Hulu to pick it up? Another show I really loved (but got canceled) is A to Z - it's the story of a relationship. So sweet and funny and so non-raunchy.

There used to be several series on Netflix about teenage mermaids (H2o or something like that) Good, light and fun. Smile

The Glenn Close show was Damages. The Newsroom is great unless you're a Republican. Wink How far back do you want to go? Bones, The West Wing, Sports Night, Dexter, Masters of Sex, Modern Family, The Middle, etc. -- I'm a total TV addict!

We don't have cable either... but I rely on Netflix and Hulu and the BBC iplayer. I am probably not the one to recommend tv shows because apparently I have terrible taste in television (this is according to everyone I know). I don't like disturbing stuff or dark or scary. I watched a lot of KDramas (my favorite is Rooftop Prince on Hulu); there are subtitles. And I love Once Upon a Time (on Netflix). I can't remember what I watched while I was nursing my daughter (it was 9 years ago! wow) but I know I watched a lot of tv!!!!

Buendia - I also love Once Upon a Time! I don't usually like shows with dark magic/light magic type stuff, but I am not bothered with how this show does it. I tried watching the spinoff about Alice in Wonderland, and it was just so ... much darker? I didn't even get through 20 minutes of it.

Thanks for all the recommendations, guys! I've actually seen parts of a lot of these shows. Watched a lot more TV before the children. I've seen the first season of Damages, most of Psych, and a lot of White Collar. But maybe I need to finish them out. Also, I've been curious about Once Upon a Time for awhile, and had Blacklist recommended to me recently by someone else. I think I'll put those two on the top of my list!

ThriftoRama -- I'm about to start lots of pumping in preparation for going back to work. I'm sure the TV watching will continue!

I don't know if you like science fiction cop shows, but Continuum and Haven are two that are really good that have a few seasons on Netflix. There is good partner chemistry on Haven and I've found the story on Continuum to be hitting close to some of the things we are beginning to see happen here in real life that led to the future people have come back to try to change.

I love Scandal! My other favorites are Downton Abbey and Call The Midwife....not really exciting shows but I sure love them. My husband just started watching Homeland...he thought it was on Netflix but apparently not...at least anymore...maybe Hulu or Amazon? A great online website (if you don't mind watching from your computer/lap top) is Watchtv-net....they have tons of shows on there all in alphabetical order...my hubby was able to watch Game of Thrones and finish up Sons of Anarchy....he is watching Homeland on there now.
